What is your favorite book or author and why? To Kill A Mockingbird. I read this book for the first time during my freshman year of high school and have revisited it several times since. Not only is Harper Lee a brilliant author, I love this piece because it brings to light issues that have plagued our society for decades and continue to haunt us today- issues such as sexual assault and racial inequality/discrimination. At the same time, Lee writes with such humor and personality that she connects easily to readers of all backgrounds and experiences.

Describe (in a short paragraph) a significant breakthrough in your development as a writer:
Although I have always enjoyed writing and used it as an outlet for years, I did not begin to truly hone the craft until my junior year of high school. That year, I took an AP Language and Composition course which taught me crucial writing skills and helped me engage with my work. Writing is an art, and like any other, must be practiced extensively. This class taught me not only to fine-tune grammatical and syntactical proficiency, but also to strive daily to better my work.
