What is your favorite book or author and why?
I absolutely love Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway. I had an incredible experience reading it in my high school senior year English class. My teacher from back then loved Virginia Woolf so much that we spent about three months reading and discussing the book in class, analyzing each page for details and hidden messages that we would have missed if we had read more quickly. That reading experience gave me a whole new appreciation for details in literature.
What is your favorite word? “Onomatopoeia!” I think it sounds cool and it also has a really interesting meaning.
Describe (in a short paragraph) a significant breakthrough in your development as a writer: A significant breakthrough in my development as a writer came during my sophomore year at Emory. I took an English class where the professor emphasized clarity and conciseness in writing, assigning his students many short papers instead of a few long papers. I have a natural tendency to write too much sometimes, and this class taught me how to consolidate and refine my ideas.
